Steam controller wired usb device not recognized upgrade#
Upgrade windows via the "Update Assistant" download tool from Microsoft.Use the Microsoft Store app called " Xbox Accessories" and connect the controller via USB-C and ensure the controller has the latest firmware. After the steps, the LT and RT buttons/triggers worked as expected via BT. Quick note, even after following these steps with everything working as expected, connected via USB the controller shows up as a "Controller (Xbox One For Windows)", and via Bluetooth it shows up as a "6 axis 16 button gamepad with hat switch". USB was fine but Bluetooth was not working as expected with the RT and LT buttons/triggers not working nor showing up in the "Game Controllers" calibration GUI under windows. I wanted to write down the steps that helped me get my controller working on USB AND Bluetooth. I posted a reply from original question if you need help getting beta access. Solved all issues with steam controller settings menu as well as big picture mode issues. Update 11/15: received a message from Steam Support to download the latest beta version of steam. If you launch a game not in big picture mode, or just use your mouse, in game it seems to work.
Big Picture Mode the new xbox controller still has issues. Plugging the controller direct with USB no issues at all. Trying to play Asassins creed the ubisoft app keeps showing the controller disconnects. STEAM it shows 2 different controllers and some buttons don't function correctly, can't even open a game in big picture mode. However It still does not function correctly when you actually play a game when connected to bluetooth. I tried a game and the controller barely worked at all.Īfter these instructions it does recognize as a xbox controller when connected to bluetooth and works some what. For example, my B and X buttons don't work properly in Big Picture. However, it seems that the fact that it's also being identified as generic is causing issues. When I click "Identify" on the Xbox One controller, my controller vibrates. It's just Steam that is detecting my controller both as an Xbox One controller and as "Axis 16 button gamepad with hat switch" which another user pointed out. All software and games outside of Steam seem to work perfectly fine. These steps worked for everything except Steam. (My controller's name is "Xbox Wireless Controller" followed by a series of numbers)
